What type of hay should I feed my Guinea Pigs?

Hi readers, todays post is a very important one as 80% of all guinea pigs diet is hay.

Hay type number one is Timothy. Timothy hay is quite expensive but the best value I have found is grown in Scotland and for £22 for 10kg for 2013 timothy hay or £19.50 for 2015 timothy hay Click here to go to Timothy Hay UK.

Hay type number two is Meadow. Meadow hay is the easiest to find as most pet shops will have it. Meadow hay has a variety of plants in it so guinea pigs will chose their favourite bits!

Hay type number 3 is Alfalfa. Alfalfa is not recommended for regular use due to a high calcium content but is fine for young guinea pigs and nursing females, and occasional use.

Hay type number 4 is farm hay. Farm hay is easiest to buy in large quantities as it is cheaper than pet shop hay. It is often just ordinary grass that has been dried. My local farm shop only charges £1.90 for a good sized bag so it is better value to get it from a farm.
