The Crazy Pet Channel: Guinea Pigs

Hi readers, todays post is about how to pick up a guinea pig which is a very important thing to learn if you are going to look after guinea pig or getting your own a guinea pig. All guinea pigs are different so don't expect them all to be the same. My guinea pigs don't really like being picked up which is a bit of a pain!!! Lets get started!!! To start with get your guinea pig in an area without any where for them to hide and then carefully put your hand under their tummy with 1 finger either side of their front leg and the other hand under their bum, then bring them close to your body. Safety tips: NEVER let young children pick up or hold a guinea pig unsupervised. Until your guinea pig is used to being held sit down whilst holding them. I hope you find this helpful, Book Worm :)

Hi readers, todays post is about how to groom your guinea pig which is good in this warm weather. This post is mainly about how to groom longhair guinea pigs but there will also be a bit on grooming shorthairs as well. To start with you need to get some guinea pig brushes; I got mine at Pets at home as a 3 pack for £8.00 and it came with: 1 soft brush, 1 pinhead brush and 1 double sided comb(one side slight apart teeth and the other close together). Time to start grooming!!! First of all get your guinea pig and put them on your lap or a table with their head facing away from you. For a long hair guinea pig you will need all the brushes that I got in my set. The first brush you'll need is the soft brush and just give them a good brush with it, this is what you will do with a shorthair guinea pig. Next use the pinhead brush and do a quick brush with it. Hi readers, todays post is all about how to clean out your Guinea pigs hutch or cage. To start with take out your guinea pigs and put them in a Run, Pet carrier or another Cage you have. Next take out all the Toys, Gnaws etc. Then take out food and water dishes and take out all the dirty bedding with a dustpan and brush and put it into a bin bag and throw away. Next put in the clean bedding and do fresh food and water and lastly put in toys and gnaws. Finally your hutch or cage finished. The next day if your guinea pigs mess up there hutch as quickly as mine you will probably need to clean it out again which also stops them smelling. I hope you found this helpful, Book Worm :)

Hi readers, todays post is about making DIY toys for your guinea pigs. The first thing is to decide what materials to use; I personally use any cardboard boxes big and small. You can also use pieces of wood and cardboard. The first DIY toy is a very simple and easy hidey house. To start with you want to have a good sized cardboard box and CAREFULLY with a craft knife or really sharp scissors cut a good sized hole in at least 2 places if it going to be for more than 1 guinea pig or cut out a whole side. The second DIY is called the hay n treat tube. You will be able to find what you need in your house or garden. This is what you'll need: Toilet or kitchen roll inner tubes, Hay, Suitable treats, Veggies and Scissors. Hi Readers, as the title tells you this post is about how to litter train your guinea pig. The first thing to do is decide what type of litter tray you want to use; I use cardboard boxes at the moment but I'm planning to get some small corner litter trays and some bigger corner litter trays. The first type of litter tray is a corner litter tray. These are great because they take up very little space and if your guinea pig goes to the toilet in corners like my guinea pigs this is the perfect type of litter tray for your guinea pigs. The second type of litter tray is a cardboard boxes with either a dip cut into it or cut down around the sides to allow them to get in and out. The down side is that it will use up a lot of cardboard boxes. The last two types of litter trays are quite similar so I've put them together because you will have to do similar things with them. Hi readers, todays post is about my guinea pigs current daily routine. The first thing to do is uncover them because we cover them up at night because they live outside and we have foxes, badgers and cats that come through our garden and we want to keep them safe at night.  The second thing to do is to feed them. They normally get: Pepper, Carrot, Tomato and some type of green leaves. When I feed them I have Patches on my lap and they both have their breakfast. I separate them at feeding time because they squabble over food!!! After veggies I generally clean them out or I do it in the evening. A while after, they both have cuddle time, which is when I groom patches because it's generally in the evening. After cuddles they get a bit of hard food which is a little pets at home hard food and selective guinea pig nuggets which both have added vitamin C. Hi Readers, as the title tells you this post is all about different types of bedding you can use for your guinea pigs. The first type of bedding is Hay, which your guinea pig will also eat so you should have a safe hay rack with extra hay in. There are 2 types of  hay that I use: Meadow Hay and Timothy hay. The second type of bedding is shredded paper; this is not very safe because of the sharp edges and it made my guinea pigs go mad! So I wouldn't use it unless your totally out of hay and you have to go a long way to buy some more.  The last type of bedding is wood shavings. Wood shavings are very good as the base bedding in the   hutch or cage. You can get big bags from pets at home if you have a lot of pets that use it as bedding.
